The creation of new dynamic public spaces is a fundamental part of urban development and particularly regeneration, and can be the lynchpin which pulls it all together. We are currently within an urban renaissance where issues of sustainability mean that we must rediscover the pleasures of urban living by providing a quality and stimulating environment. The integration of spaces within existing urban patterns and respect for the historic context of the site is key to achieving a usable space that has meaning for the town.
Our work has ranged from the reappraisal of main high streets in small historic towns, to the reclamation of town squares from urban decay, as well as the design of new urban plazas. Whilst each demands a different approach, an understanding of urban form, a town's history, issues of local importance and the concerns of the local people always play an important role.
