| SUDS are a more sustainable
way of managing surface and stormwater as:
- they decrease runoff flow rates from developments;
- they protect and enhance the quality of receiving watercourses
and
- they improve the amenity and ecological aspects of drainage.
The importance of SUDS is growing and their use is being
promoted by the government in PPG25 and by many planning authorities,
which expect planning applications to specify how a more sustainable
approach to drainage can be incorporated within a development.
Illman Young recognise the importance of integrated SUDS design
and are now involved in a two year research project with the
University of Gloucestershire to explore and refine SUDS techniques.
